Newborn Skills

Think you need a lot of toys? Nope a simple blanket, your face, and maybe a toy or two are all you need.  Babies love your face and your voice.  You can place them on an any stable flat surface and work with them on their side, their backs, and their belly.  We had a small condo when my son was born and we would get out a small blanket and move it around the house.  Just changing the environment up was interesting enough for him.  Also it’s important to get down on the eye level of your baby.  You can’t engage with them if you are hanging out too far above.  Try lying down beside them while they play on their side and look at you.  You can do the same while they are on their tummy.  This makes them more likely to want to stay in these positions as well as working on their visual motor skills too.
